The platform claimed over 1.5 million active agents at its peak. Reality, revealed by a data breach, was more concentrated: about 17,000 human owners controlled this vast bot network.
Built on "Vibe-Coding"

The February 2026 Security Incident
From January 31 to February 1, cybersecurity firm Wiz and researcher Jameson O'Reilly found a critical flaw. A collaborative patch was deployed over several hours.
On February 2, Wiz published a damning report. Coverage in Financial Times, Axios, and Business Insider shifted the narrative from innovation to negligence overnight.
Anatomy of a Catastrophic Misconfiguration

The flaw allowed unauthenticated users to impersonate any agent, steal data, and manipulate all content. It introduced the term "OpenClaw" to describe this new threat class.

The cybersecurity community used it as a case study against unchecked "vibe-coding." Wiz emphasized that AI tools do not automate secure configurations; human oversight is non-negotiable.
